Education Requirements
NAIT is currently the only court reporting school in Canada certified by the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA). Most ASRA members are graduates of the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) Captioning and Court Reporting Program. NAIT graduates are recognized world-wide for their excellence and employers seek out NAIT alumni specifically because they are assured that those students have had an excellent education. Graduates work at home or in English-speaking countries around the world including court reporting or realtime opportunities in Australia, the United States, Europe, the Caribbean, Asia, Africa, the International Criminal Court and other United Nations-sponsored tribunals.
The Captioning and Court Reporting program at NAIT in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, is a two-year diploma program. Applicants are required to meet certain academic requirements and non-academic entrance requirements including keyboard familiarity, excellent hearing, and English as a first language. The ASRA, along with several other program supporters, offer annual scholarships for students in the program.
